Baby monitor

A baby monitor is a device that alerts parents when their baby cries. One unit is near the baby’s cot, the other with a parent in a different room. When a baby begins to cry, for example, Mum or Dad will hear it on their device. There are also baby monitors with a camera that in addition to sound also transmits a current picture of the baby.

Unlike breathing monitors, baby monitors do not prevent sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Baby monitors only transmit sound and sometimes image. However, a baby suffering an ALTE event that leads to death from SIDS does not make any sound, and at first glance seems to be sleeping.
